NEWS: STEIN ON RUSSELL SIMMONS US SCHOOL TOUR, FEATURED AS SOLE DANCEHALL ACT
Dancehall artiste is celebrating international success after he was featured as the only dancehall act on hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and Erica Ford’s high school tour.
According to a seemingly excited Stein, his fortune came as a blessing in disguise.
“Erica Ford is a business partner of Russell Simmons, they are both involved in the high school tour. So I was standing in a restaurant in the US, called ‘The Door’ and Erica entered and seeing me for the first time she asked if I was an artiste, so I said yes, I am a dancehall artiste, she said she knows about dancehall but she don’t know me,” Stein said.
“Then she told me about the school tour but she wanted to see what I could do first before she included me, so she booked me for a surprise performance at Wings Academy in Bronx, I passed through free and when I performed she was surprised to see how the kids reacted to my music, she was stunned because the Yankee children knew every song, and after my performance she said she had to book me for the school tour, so we sorted out the business part and then I was on the tour,” he said.Promotional tour:
Stein had originally left Jamaica for a one month promotional tour, however, due to his inclusion in the school tour his stay in the US was extended to an additional month.Stein headlined the tour alongside Rapper Maino, R&B singer Robby and also shared stage with YC who peaked in 2011 with the single Racks and Racks.
“I went to seven high schools promoting peace, safe sex and dem ting deh, and I believe this will open other doors for me because people who did not know Stein got a chance to know my music,” he said.
According to the dancehall artiste, he is finally making the musical progress that he has long yearned for.
“The ting tun up yah now, I have my website up – Steinmusic.com, New York based company Fox Fuse are handling my booking and management and I made new connections internationally,” Stein said.
The artiste is expected to return to Jamaica this weekend where he will commence working on his upcoming album called All Or Nothing. The album will feature Mobb Deep, one of the most critically acclaimed hardcore East Coast hip-hop groups in America.
“This experience has taught me that as an artiste yuh can’t just sit down and expect that things a guh gwaan fi yu. Just get up and guh out deh because you don’t know what is out there for you or who respect you. It also shows that music is bigger than Jamaica and that dancehall is global. We don’t even know the worth of what we have,” Stein ended.
